Welcome to Potato Chip Musings

God at the Center

A little about why I’m writing this blog.

I grew up in the church. My family was Catholic and when I was a kid, I went to CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine). Wow, I had to look up what that means. Lol
Anyway, I was in CCD for six years. I wanted nothing more than to be an altar boy but alas, I am a girl, so that did not happen. I knew every single word that was uttered during Mass. I knew when to kneel down, I could repeat back everything the priest said word for word. I knew all the songs an I sat in the front pew for the best view and hearing!
But I didn’t know the Lord. I only knew how to be a good Catholic.

When I reached middle school, my mother started attending a Pentecostal Church. They were hard-core Pentecostal and I took a personal offense to their beliefs of women not cutting their hair, not wearing pants and not wearing make-up. So, I chopped off my hair, wore make-up to church and wore the tightest jeans I could get my hands on. I attended that church for several years until I’d had enough. But I still didn’t know the Lord.

Once I got married, my husband and I started attending a normal, Presbyterian Church. I went to small group and I learned about this relationship thing with God. I was finally getting to know Him. I would listen to the Christian Radio station and often won tickets to Christian concerts. We attended many of them. I read the Bible in small group and listened attentively at church. But I still didn’t know the Lord. Then, some bad things went down at our church and we stopped attending. As I raised my kids, my husband and I slowly drifted away from God. It was weird to listen to the Christian Radio station when friends were in the car, so I started listening to the regular radio. I had trouble finding a church we liked so soon we stopped trying all together. I knew God was still there but He was no longer my center.

Fast forward, 20 years, my kids grew up and my husband and I were trying to find each other again. Unsure of where to start and figuring out what to do as non-full-time parents, we started making new friends. We hung out with people who seemed nice but were not our friends behind our backs. That’s when the Lord allowed me to be tested. I almost lost my mind. Paranoia set in. I became fearful of the world. I thought that everyone was against me. I couldn’t trust anyone. I literally heard voices in my head and thought I was going insane.

After much prayer, the Lord saved me and pulled me out of that pit of despair. That’s when I gave my life to Him, unconditionally. I wasn’t in that pit long, just a few months (some people are in battles for years!), but it was the most horrific experience! Knowing that He has unconditional love for me and that He would stop at nothing to come for me and save me is what it took for me to earnestly seek out a real relationship with Him (Parable in Luke 15:3-7 He leaves the ninety-nine sheep in the open country to go find the one, lost sheep until he finds it).

The beauty of God is that He is living and He speaks to His people (John 10:27-28). As I learn to hear His voice and I develop a relationship with Him, I want to share Him with everyone I meet! I want everyone to get to know Him the way I do. I want everyone to feel the love that I know He has for me. Unfathomable love. I am not worthy, yet He loves me anyway! And He loves you that way, too!

The purpose of this blog is to share the Good News with you. It is to show you how amazing my God is and to share Him with you so that you will also get to know Him like I do. If you’re curious/interested/intrigued, I invite you to stay and learn more.
