I’ve always been intrigued by people’s uniqueness.
I grew up in an environment where I wasn’t really taught the nuances of how to treat others. I learned the cursory please and thank yous, but I didn’t learn the niceties of what to say when someone is grieving or how to respond when someone tells you they’re having a bad day. So I’ve always shied away from conversation.
But I’ve always been a people watcher. I can sit at a train station and just watch people all day long.
I love seeing their uniqueness, their individuality; how their passions shine through in the way they dress, in their gait, in their stance, in how they choose to style their hair or in a well placed tattoo. The list goes on and on.
Think of your favorite band members. Look at how they each dress, uniquely. They each have their own style, their own special way that they talk, that they move, a certain mannerism that’s only theirs.
What they all share in common is that they are each (as you and I are) individually and unconditionally loved by God.
The Lord will see no one perish, he loves every human being on the planet! Even the ones who cut you off on the road and the ones who talk badly about you. Every single one!
2 Peter 3:9
[The Lord] is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
Humans are as diverse as the stars. There is no one that is like another. Even twins have different experiences that shape them in an individual and intimate way; even though they are genetically bonded.
To think that God made us that diverse on purpose!
We are called to love God above all else and to love each other as ourselves. So why not celebrate each other’s uniqueness?
Go out today and celebrate someone’s uniqueness. Speak life to them about something that stands out that is only theirs. Could be their smile, the way they pronounce a certain phrase, the way they walk or dance; and watch how their face lights up!
Come back and share how you made someone’s day by speaking life to them.
This is a great song by TobyMac: Speak Life.
